Well its a new year and that means Pantone has come out with its "colors of 2012". So I thought that I would get back to my Mannequin Monday's by honoring some of this years colors. The hautest being Tangerine Tango, this color can be a great accent to any outfit like this Starfish sequin top and pencil skirt. And of course I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't throw in my signature color with a killer pair of Bellflower.

Craziest Wedding Proposals

In my line of business (jewelry concierge) I am asked all the time what are some of the craziest proposal stories. And I can't say that I've worked on "crazy" proposals, unique, different and individual is what I would call them. Proposals don't have to be wild and crazy, that can sometimes lead to disaster, all though memorable. The most important thing is that they are thought felt and unique to your relationship. Lost and never found

From past post, you know that I am a stickly for CLEAN jewelry. I can spot a dirty diamond from a mile away. Over the holidays I noticed that a friend never took her ring off, elbow deep in turkey stuffing and pie making but wore her ring proudly. I'm happy to say that she is a practicing ring cleaner :) so I asked why she never takes it off her response was two fold. 1) Has to do with the strength to her marriage and her husband of 15 years and 2) the fear of losing it if she was in the habit of taking it off.
This is sistah is a true inspiration to wifedom and the commitment it takes to continueously develop a good marriage (after 9 years I'm still working on that). But if was the fear of losing it that got me to thinking about the most popular places to lose your ring.

The beach
As much as I like to see my ring glistening in the sun this is just not a good place to wear your jewelry. It can easily slip off in the ocean or if you pull it off to apply lotions and it just takes a moment of distraction by one of the kids and your ring falls into the sand abyss.

The gym
When I work out my hands tend to swell a bit so its not comfortable for me to wear my ring, knowing this I just don't wear it. I know some feel that slipping it in a gym locker is a safe alternative, but again it just takes a moment of distraction or racing to get back to work and its left in a locker or falls without your knowledge.

Hotels/traveling
Usually when you're traveling you are doing a lot of ripping and running and being in unfamiliar surrounding its very easy to forget your valuables. My advice, travel with a decoy!

Public restrooms
After being in the jewelry industry for so many years, I have helped to replace many a ring because it had been taken off and put down at the sink to wash hands or lotion up. It slips down the drain, you walk away distracted or even falling victim to a grab and run.

While driving
In this day and age everyone has become multi-taskers and the most popular place to multi-task (safely of course) is in your car. I spend at least 4 hours a day in my car so believe me I am eating, spending family time, working, dressing, and more in my car. So I can understand when I hear stories of clients who have been rushing to work and lay their jewelry in their laps but forgot when they get out of the car or its slips into that tiny little crevice.

On Wednesday September 28th, Quintessential Consulting and Blueprint for Style hosted a fabulous jewelry and jean event for the fashionista's of DC. Ladies and gents came to check out all the styles and to find the perfect fit by The Blue Jeans Bar from Manhattan NYC. With the premium collection of denim that they brought there was no way that guests couldn't find the perfect pair.

Mystique Jewelers, from Old Town Alexandria amazed guests with a beautiful collection of gems and jewels in rings, necklaces and earrings. There was also a guest appearance by Jewelers Choice Award winner, Alberto Prada who's collection of eco-friendly designs are just simply breath taking!

The evening wouldn't be complete without sweets, treats and cocktails. Cupcake Wishes and Birthday Dreams accented the evening with delicious cupcakes and a denim themed sweet bar, YUMMY!

Popping the question

If I were to list the greatest, most memorial moments in my life (so far), they would be graduating from college, getting engaged and having my kids. (in no particular order) Most married women will have getting engaged on their list, which can be lot of pressure. So I'm going to help out with some of the DO's and DONT's that can emiminate stress and embarrassment.

1. DO have a ring when you propose. Even if its a stand in or candy ring, you need to have something to put on her finger to complete the vision. (For engagement ring assistance contact US)

2. DO have a back up plan. If you wanted to propose on the deck of the ferry crossing the Mississippi and you got stuck in traffic and missed the ferry then have a plan B, take her to a cliff top restaurant that over looks the Mississippi instead.

3. DO arrange to have someone who can document your proposal moment. A passer by or professional photographer. Believe me, you get so caught up in the moment that its always nice to be able to whip out a photo journal to show friends.

4. DON'T "cookie cutter" propose! Everyone's relationship is individual and unique so make your proposal that way.

5. DON'T feel like you have to propose on a holiday or already designated day on the calender. Christmas is nice but just be prepared to have an audience or to share it with the WHOLE family immediately. Choosing a different day gives you another day to celebrate or remember in the future.

6. DON'T share your plans with those that are not on a NEED TO KNOW basis, like her father or your jewelry consultant. Because once you share with her mom who then has to tell her little sister who can't help but share with the sorority sisters. And then every time they see you together she'll be able to read it all over their faces.

4 places your engagement ring will out BLING

One of my biggest pet peeves is a dirty ring! QC Concierge and our clients don't spend days on weeks and even months on end working to find the most beautiful diamonds and settings for you to walk around with a dirty diamond!!! (refer to Make it Last Longer)
But I do understand that there may be a little hand lotion recido or natural body oil from you admiring your ring through out the day. Have you noticed that there are some places that maximize the BLING? I am always looking for the sparkle potential from my ring and others through out my day. It's almost like when you take a picture and you tilt your head just the right way to get the best angle of your chin or turn your hip just so slightly to look your slimiest.

1. Bathroom
In our own bathroom or public restrooms, they seem to have a great combination of overhead lighting and vanity style lighting that make for prime bling.

2. Furniture Store
I know a bit off the beaten path but they are in the business of showcasing different environments so you are sure to see some fabulous sparkle potential. Next time you're there trace your hand along a cherry wood dining set and see what I'm talking about!

3. Conference room
Again another location that has BRIGHT lighting to keep everyone attentive during meetings. But make sure you're taking proper notes and not getting lost in the twinkle of your ring during your next corporate meeting.

4. Car
This is one of my favorite places to admire my rings bling potential. I admit that you will find me playing with the reflections of my ring on the ceiling of the car. The kids think its mommies sparkle magic, lol.

wwSo I missed the Oscars this year....but for good reason, I was celebrating my last moments in South Africa. What a wonderfully amazing trip but that's for another post :) I have managed to catch up (better late then never) on all the hits and misses and of course what I really care about, the jewels that walked the red carpet. Some of my favorites of course were......

The glowing Natalie Portman in Tiffany jewelry. Gwyneth Paltrow added some color to her metallic Calvin Klein with earrings, ring and broach from Louis Vuitton. And the lovely Reese Witherspoon adorned diamonds and emeralds by the legendary Neil Lane.

Emeralds played their own award winner appearances on this years Oscar red carpet. Amy Adams (although not my favorite dressed on the carpet) glittered in a Cartier diamond and emerald lariat necklace, bracelet and diamond earrings worth more then $1 million. I was so happy to see Celine Dion in a breathtaking Bulgari diamond and emerald necklace (just YUMMY).

And I think that the newly defined Jennifer Hudson and the always HAUTE Halle Berry just sizzled on the red carpet. They are my definite picks for BEST DRESSED!

How better then to make a statement with Neil Lane and this beautiful white and yellow diamond ring. And her QC Best Dressed counterpart double cuffed it with diamond bracelets and ring from none other then Neil Lane also.

And best dressed couple goes to Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves, who accented a classic black dress with Lorraine Schwartz pearl earrings.

Sexy is really relative, everyone's vision, version or definition of it is going to be different. In 2006 Justin Timberlake all but moon walked and claimed a stake in "bringing sexy back" but ladies did he really? Who's sexy to you? What makes them sexy?
For me its a level of confidence, respecting the world you live in and a killer suit!!!! Which takes me back to my question of who really brought sexy back.....and my answer would have to be JAMES BOND!

Ladies is there anything better then a man in a finely tailored suit, a pair of amazing cuff links and a confident swagger? Ladies with the holidays coming up we need to make sure our men are "stacking their claim" (with our help of course) in being their ultimate sexy selves.

For the next couple of weeks I am going to focus on making and maintaining our sexy men :)

Emmy 2010 Bold and Bright Standouts

This years Prime time Emmys aired last Sunday and I had a front row seat in my living room! Like some of the more recent award shows only a few pieces really stood out to me. Bright colored gems made a sea of black and navy dresses pop on the red carpet.

Love this picture (still in that honeymoon stage) Eva Longoria Parker graced the red carpet in these amazing red chandelier earrings.

Trying to multi-task (in true mommy style) while I was watching the Emmys I missed Heidi Klum on the red carpet but read everyone twitting about her black micro mini number so of course I had to pull her up online and all I have to say is "Go head momma" (from one mom to another). She really can do no wrong in my eyes and I love how she rocked that dress with an AMAZING Lorraine Schwartz necklace.

Another top jewelry pick of the evening was Julia Louise-Dreyfuss' beautiful jade green and diamond earring and matching bracelet set. This big bold color gave me a reason to ignore her "sleepy" black number.

Kim Kardashian rocked this white Grecian dress with a "TO DIE FOR" white and yellow diamond, platinum cuff bracelet by none other then Lorraine Schwartz.

This past weekend was chalked full of celebrity weddings. One of those was the nuptial of American Idol famed singer Carrie Underwood and her beau hockey player Mike Fisher. He proposed to the country singer with a flawless yellow diamond and white diamond halo engagement ring some sources say is worth around $150,00 while others report up to $1.3 million.

Carrie's now husband sought the advice of her long time favorite jewelry designer, Jonathan Arndt. The famed jewelry designer told the press that he designed this stunning diamond engagement ring because it, “is a symbol of love from Mike Fisher to Carrie Underwood."

This months birth stone is one of the four precious stones, Ruby. The name comes from the Latin word ruber which means red. Natural, untreated rubies come in pinkish red to blood red, the richer the color and lack of thread like inclusions the more valuable. You will find that most natural (untreated) rubies will have inclusions and this distinguishes them from synthetic or simulated (lab created) stones. Now a days a lot of the rubies out there are heat treated to improve color and mend inclusions, so always ask your jeweler!

This week I cashed in my sitter pass and pulled out my best SATC2 dress and shoes to attend CityShopGirl's SATC2 party at BarDupont. Earlier in the month she had a city wide search for Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda look-a-likes. They received glamtastic make overs by Ted Gibson's Helaspa, a photo shoot with Kristen Hooper and were bejeweled by DRZ Jewelers. You can read more about the winners here.

A friend and I made it last year and we were a bit overwhelmed buy the sheer size of the event. You will find everything from loose gems stones for the custom jeweler to the most phenomenal rings, necklaces and bracelets to cleaning products and jewelry displays. So there is something for everyone. We both went there just to look and she ended up with the most beautiful pair of trillion diamonds to accent her almost 3ct round center stone!

Johnny Brookheart has an unconventional take on this traditional symbol of love. So your man, should I assume that he has a few tats and maybe a piercing of his own, takes you on a romantic date to the first place you met. The local tattoo shop and pops the question, you say yes and he says "open wide". May's Flavor of the Month ~ EMERALD

If you are born in the month of May then you're blessed to have Emerald as your birthstone. The word Emerald comes from the Greek word "smaragdos" which means green gem. Emeralds are said to be a symbol of immortality and faith and to improve memory. They are one of the most precious of the gemstones, the ideal color being a rich even deep green, which is very rare. The majority of stones that we may see everyday have natural inclusion (which look like black or white specks or scratches in the stone). Even thought they grade higher on the hardness scale they are still prone to chipping or cracking due to the internal inclusions. So they must be handled with care while wearing and cleaning. Emeralds most commonly are mined in Columbia but have also been found in the US, Russia, Brazil and parts of Africa.

In my inspiration board I have The Hooker Emerald Brooch which is part of the National Gem Collection of the Smithsonian Institute. This 75.57ct emerald dates back to the 16th century, later acquired by Tiffany and then in 1955 Mrs. Janet Annenberg Hooker purchased it until finally donating it to the Institute in 1977.

Then there is Elizabeth Taylor's famous diamond and emerald Bulgari necklace that was given to her by her husband Richard Burton.

At last years Academy Awards, our modern version of "royalty" Angelina Jolie rocked the red carpet in a breathtaking pair of 115ct emerald teardrop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz.

Many years ago a friend brought me a 2ct natural emerald from India and I have yet to decide how to set it so for now it will be stay part of my loose stone collection.

Ever since I became a mom I have been on a quests to find the perfect Mothers jewelry. I am sure that all of us at one point or another have presented our mothers with the "mothers ring"....yeah! When my son was born I made it very clear to my husband that I DO NOT want a mothers ring like that!!!!

Now I am on my second child and I am really looking for something that I can wear with pride that represents both my beautiful children. So I thought that I would share some great ideas I have some across. I hope you enjoy!

I had the great pleasure of celebrating my birthday with friends and family this past weekend. It was fantastic, Friday we donned our diamonds and sipped champagne. On Saturday my ladies and I spend the afternoon pampering ourselves and ended the evening with some jewelry shopping. And to top the weekend I hosted my second annual Big Hat brunch with friends, it truly was a fabulous weekend.

I thought this video on Hulu from the National Geographic Channel "Secret History of Diamonds" was very fascinating. It tells several different stories of the extremes that people take in the quest for diamonds.

Ooooo, my favorite MONTH of the year!!!!! APRIL....could it be because it's my birthday....or maybe that the birthstone is DIAMOND!!!!! The word diamond comes from the Greek word adamas meaning "indestructible". The diamond engagment ring is dated back to 1477, when Archduke Maximillian of Austria gave his beloved Mary of Burgundy a diamond ring. The reason that an engagment ring is worn on the third finger of the left hand comes from the Egyptian who believed that "the vein of love" ran from the the heart throught to the tip of your "ring finger".

Diamonds are the earth's most unique and spectacular gifts. Even though the production of diamonds has almost tripled over the last two decades they are still a very scarce resources. Countries like Botswana, Australia, India, Russia and even Canada produce a large portion of the worlds diamonds.

These aren't just for your grandmother

I was talking with a friend the other day about my business services and finding a gift for his secretary. As we talked I suggested a really nice set of pearls and his first reaction was chagrin! "Aren't pearls for your grandmother?"

NO!

Pearls are a fabulous staple to add to your wardrobe, just like the all purpose white blouse or black slacks and pencil skirt. I am sure that like many of you we remember how classy Jackie Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn looked in their pearl necklaces.

Pearls come in different shapes and sizes, colors and values. Natural pearls are very rare, so like many things in this day and age a large percentage of the pearls are cultured (with the help of human intervention). Some very simple hints to make sure that you are getting a nice set of pearls is to make sure there is a consistency in shape, luster and smoothness among the pearls. Because pearls come in many different colors (white, yellow, black and grey) you can never go wrong. Many folks ask me the question about the cost of pearls and I tell them that depending on the qualities they are looking for they should expect to pay $400 plus, remember pearls never go out of style!

I also think that the First Lady Fashioniasta has really brought "classy back" and is showing that a pearl necklace can be fun and fabulous.

Oscar Night 2010 - Jewels on the Red Carpet

Oscar Monday and some are still feeling the buzz! Last night I had two of my girlfriends over for a Winners & Wine Oscar watching party. Everyone brought their favorite wine and we popped bottles, filled out our ballot picks and gossiped about movies, fashion and of course jewels.

In true essentialjewels.blogspot style I am going to start with my favorite bejeweled scarlets.

Kate Winslet looked breath taking in a $2.5 million yellow diamond and diamond custom necklace by Tiffany & Co. with a matching pair of 10k yellow diamond drop earrings. I was so glad to see some type of neck baubles after several "neckless" awards in the past couple of months.

The Queen of NY herself can do no wrong in my eyes. She was just a sight last night in her Chanel Haute Couture gown and Fred Leighton diamond cluster earrings and bangles.

The Queen of the screen, the elegant Hellen Mirren looked just beautiful with Chopard earrings and diamond necklace.

My honorable mention goes to the Jeff Bridges wife, Susan Geston for her beautiful turquoise and diamond droplet earrings.

Those were my top picks but of course I will share some other fabulous red carpet jewels.

Jennifer Lopez looked great in her diamond Cartier accessories, a platinum diamond bracelet, white gold panther diamond ring and vintage Cartier platinum earrings.

Miley Cyrus looked very mature and red carpet ready wearing Lorraine Schwartz 200k bronzed diamond corset cuff bracelet, just yummy!

Demi Moore was a presenter last night and worked the red carpet wearing Van Cleep & Arpeles platinum hair clip, a VC&A platinum diamond bracelet and a gorgeous Tahitian pearl ring.

The jury is still out on Zoe Saldana's dress, but regardless of what she is wearing she is beautiful. Of course I loved her Lorraine Scwartz 80k amethyst and diamond ring.

Who could say no to Neil Lane?

If you live on this planet and have a t.v. then you were tuned in to ABC's The Bachelor this past Monday. Were you sitting on the edge of your seat? Like most you probably were sharing a few words with the t.v. after Jake Pavelka tearfully escorted Tenley to the "limo for losers". I love a good reality show but have not been a Bachelor fan but as the season went on I have to say that the commercials drew me in and for the last 4 or 5 episodes I was intrigued. I was all about team Tenley at the end and was disappointed in the outcome but to each his own and only Jake knows what makes Jake happy.

So enough about that back to the more important topic at hand the engagement ring!!!!!! While in his private suite contemplating a life changing decision, Jake Pavelka received a visit from non other then Neil Lane himself. What a life! Jake was given two rings until he made his final decision.

The final choice was a custom design 2.02 caret princess cut diamond with a diamond hallow set in platinum. Like I said before, "Who could say no to Neil Lane?"

March's FLAVOR OF THE MONTH

Another one of my favorite stones, the aquamarine is a breathtaking birthstone for the month of March. This stone ranges in color from an almost colorless pale blue to blue green or teal, the richer the color the more valuable. And because of that many aquas are heated at very high temperatures to achieve those vibrant blues.

The word aquamarine comes from the Latin word meaning water and sea. Legend has it that those who wear aquamarines would have foresight, courage and happiness. And is thought to soothe anxiety and make one more youthful. These stones are found mainly in Brazil and other places like Madagascar and Mozambique, this goes on my list as #102 reasons to travel the world.

You will find aquamarines in both cut stones or in a more raw form, but no matter what form they are equally as beautiful gemstones. They look very classy and elegant with diamonds and just as fun and funky as an accent with other colored gems.

Make it last longer!

For those of you that don't know me, one of my pet peeves is dirty jewelry. With all the beautiful craftsmanship that was put into your piece of jewelry or the time that was taken to find the perfect piece, it should ALWAYS look its best! I have friends who know that when they come to my house, they are going to get a free cleaning in my ultrasonic cleaner :) So I thought that I would share a few tips to keep your beautiful gems looking their BEST!

1. Know your jewelry - on a regular basis you should be checking for loose or damaged stones, worn down prongs or cracks/wear to the metal. Its always better to catch a potential problem before it turns into a hefty jewelry repair. A lot of local jewelers are happy to check your pieces, for them its a potential repair sale or if they are really good then a potential upgrade/add on sale!

2. Remove your jewelry - I can not say this enough. In my 10 plus years in the industry I can't tell you how many rings I have had to cut off or heirlooms I've had to refurbish because people for some reason or another NEVER took their pieces off. There are soooo many products that over time leave a film that builds up and can do a lot of damage. Even though we use soap to wash our hands or shower it does leave a film (haven't you seen the commercials?).

3. Store your jewelry - How many of you store your designer shoes or couture bags in special boxes or cloth bags? Well your jewelry should be treated even better!!! (sorry did that sound bias) There are some fabulous jewelry boxes or armoire that allow you to store all your pieces separately and protect them from scratching metals or stones. If you are traveling, carry your jewelry in a soft 100% cotton satchel with different compartments so you can protect them as much as possible.

4. Love your jewelry - Use jewelry polishing clothes (I love my Miracles polishing cloth, it is infused with coconut oil for a natural clean). If you have enough pieces you may want to invest in a home based ultra sonic, some work with just warm water and others work with jewelry cleaning solutions. You may be asking yourself "what about toothpaste?" NO! NO! NO! It can be too abrasive on some stones and even some metals and it too can leave a film that really defeats the purpose. And last but not least just like you take your car in for its 3000 mile check up so must you take your jewelry in to a professional. Find a local jeweler who can inspect your jewelry and offer any recommended repairs or care.

We all know that flowers are such an amazing gesture of love and appreciation. Believe me I love, love, love to get flowers. They always put a smile on my face and in my heart but a week later, not so much.
So this valentine's day why not make that rose last FOREVER with rose gold jewelry. I put together an inspiration board of some fabulous engagement rings and wedding bands from some amazing designers.

Congratulations goes out to the New Orleans SAINTS for winning the Super Bowl. My house was split for the win, my husband and son for the Colts and my 2yr old daughter and I were dolled up in our black and gold!!

I was happy to see the spirit back in the city as they celebrated this well deserved win. And of course I couldn't help but start looking for Fleur de lis jewelry and I came across some fabulous pieces and saw that many stores or sites were SOLD OUT, hmmm I wonder why?

Golden Globes Glitz

Last night the Beverly Hilton hosted the 2010 Golden Globe Awards, so I put the little ones to bed and poured a glass of wine to watch the jewels that walked the red carpet.

Most people would end with their favorites but I am too excited about my two favorite looks for the night.

The undeniably gorgeous HALLE BARRY wore Kaufman Franco and I just loved her sterling silver and pava diamond chainlink bracelet by Irit Design and earrings by Kimberly McDonald.

And the classic and breathtaking JULIA ROBERTS wore a vintage Yves Saint Laurent and what I thought was THE most AMAZING necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels!!!! Can a sista' get one please!!!!! Those were my two favs for the night but there were plenty of bling that hit the red carpet and once again it was all about the one shoulder frocks and the earring. For a jewelry buff, it doesn't make it as much fun but I love jewelry regardless.

Kate Hudson looked great in a white Marchesa gown. And her pearl and diamonds tassel style earrings and bracelet by Stephen Russell. Something a little different then the chandelier earring.

Loving Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani and the fact that she was dripping in 69 carats of Chopard diamonds.

Drew Barrymore looked as classy as usual, loved the Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and moonstone ring. (really the only ring that stood out to me).

I can't find a better word to describe Julianne Moore's Bulgari two toned emerald earrings, then YUMMY!!!!!

So maybe I have a third favorite of the night, Courtney Cox in these TO DIE FOR smoky topaz and diamond baubles. (that of course she borrowed from my collection...I can dream can't I?)

With the holidays already upon us I am going to share with you my favorite Jewelry pieces that are great to add to your collection or be perfect gifts for that special person. Some are going to be classics and some are going to be some fab bling that you might not have thought of. I am going to include some helpful shopping hints (stores and prices).

The FIRST day of Christmas......

The classic diamond stud earrings. A must have in every ladies wardrobe (and some men but that's a whole 'nother topic). Diamonds studs come in several different settings, the first pair I have here are in a basket setting. This really allows the diamonds to be showcased, light can come in from every angle.

The next pair of round stud earrings are in the tradition 4 or 6 prong setting with a regular tension backing. You can go with the 4 prongs on smaller stones but definitely want to have the 6 prongs with larger stones like 1ct or higher. (that's 1ct each stone not 1ct total weight)

And if you're like me you are fond of things that are a little different but still have that classic style. I love my princess cut studs! And these are a great pair of fancy round studs with a pave halo. Diamonds can be worn on any occasions so you can easily dress these up with a matching pendant and purple dress (of course) or throw on some jeans and cashmere sweater.

I have always been drawn in by the Citrine, and in my research for beautiful pieces for this post I found the reason why. Most Citrine's are heat treated AMETHYST'S!!!!!! My Ah ha moment :)

The Citrine is the stone of success, the rich yellow tones are the color of logic and intellect. A large amount of the worlds Citrine's come from Brazil....so I expect some fab Citrine pieces when my husband returns from his annual trip to Brazil (thanks honey!)

Anyone who knows me knows that I am all about being CLASSY, GLAMOROUS and the of course the BLING! So how better to show it off then to have a fab blinglicious event for the ladies! Hence the birth of Bubbles & Baubles, the perfect receipe of champagne and delicious gems.

I, of course had to make sure that besides mixing and mingling amongst the gems these ladies had a very inviting reason to come. The invitation! (which were hand crafted by yours truly). I put a lot of thought into creating something that was elegant, enticing and sexy. I know how I am when I see a big envelope in the mail, I am very excited to see what's inside (especially cause I know its not a bill :)

I partnered with a very near and dear friend of mine that I've known for many many moons, Zach Ramadan of DRZ Jewelers, to host this private affair. He is the owner of a gorgeous new store in the busy K st/ Connecticut Ave corridor. They feature some of the most fab, unique pieces of jewelry, watches and giftware. DRZ Jewelers offers watch and jewelry repair, custom and special order services. Everything for every taste and every pocket!

The ladies were treated to flowing champagne and the most scrumptious treats created by Cupcake Wishes & Birthday Dreams. She did a fab job coordinating the treats with my purple (of course) and egg shell blue palette. We had Pink Sapphire Soufletennies, Chocolate diamond pops, Platinum petit fours and "Caret" Cakes.

The ladies also had a wonderful time trying on necklaces and rings and watches with luscious diamonds and gems and even a great silver and platinum collection. Each lady didn't leave empty handed, they left with a goodie bag full of treats, which included a mini champagne, silk jewelry box, jewelry cleaning cloth and a sweet smelling all natural soap provided by a local designer. September's Flavor of the Month

I wanted to share with you a little bit about one of my fav stone the Sapphire, September's birthstone.

The sapphire comes from the Latin word "saphirus" meaning blue. Symbolizing truth, commitment and sincerity.

Many of us who watched Princess Diana wedding will also remember the breathtaking sapphire engagement ring that Prince Charles gave her, bringing back the sophistication and class of the sapphire stone.
If you haven't had the chance to see a beautiful sapphire "The Star of India" you have to make a special trip to the Natural History Museum in New York City. You will also find the the exquisite sapphire, The Bismark Sapphire which measures 98.6 carets and is adorned by diamonds. The second largest sapphire, displayed at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, The Logan Blue Sapphire which measures 423 carets.

You can also find sapphires in many different natural colors, like yellow, white, green, pink, purple and the rare star sapphire. (which I will explore at a later date).

What is your proposal story?

A few weeks ago, on our Facebook page, we asked for fans to post their proposal stories. We asked that fans tell us their stories so that we can post them on our blog for our readers to vote on their favorite story. Well here they are. We got such great stories but we had to narrow them down. The winning couple will receive an exclusive QC champagne and sweets gift basket they can use to celebrate an anniversary or share on their honeymoon.

"BIG BANG"

It was out first night alone in our brand new house. I was so excited, we had finally moved in and all our friends and family had left.On my way home he phoned to say he would cook tonight - he didn't cook, at all! He had the table set, candles lit & a bottle of wine breathing on the mantle and he proudly produced a charred pizza and chips. (well its the thought that counts right?). After dinner we watched some TV. He started to get really annoying and fidgety.Then all of a sudden he pushes me off the blow up couch(no furniture yet) and straight into a grandfather clock which I hit with a major bang! I start crying, huge big snot rendering whales of pain and he runs out of the room! I am still in a heap on the floor when he comes back in. Are you ok? No I am not ok... oh right em - 'Will you marry me?' - I nearly died - he is on one knee, glass of champagne in hand with a diamond ring in the bottom. Me speechless!
His reason for pushing me into the grandfather clock? The evening was getting too romantic and he didn't want me to guess he was proposing!! - Priceless!!

"SWEPT AWAY"

He told me we're going to dinner and maybe staying out late. He picks me up. We arrive at the airport with a flight to Paris, France - open ended first class tickets. We arrive at the hotel where he purchased me three beautiful dresses and shoes from Neiman Marcus and said I could keep one. In the bathroom there's brand new make-up from Elizabeth Arden, brand new bra, undies, pantyhose. We dress and go to dinner, order champagne and take a walk to the Eiffel Tower. He proposes. We stay a week in Paris to celebrate the engagement. (If the engagement was declined, I was told...we'd be on the next flight home.)

"LUCK BE A LADY"

I went out to happy hour with some of my coworkers for St. Patrick's day. He was excited to have me out of the house for the evening (because he had a big surprise). He later picked me up from the metro. I thought they we were going to Cap City Brewery for Green Beer and Pretzels. When I walked into the house, the lights are out and there are candles lit all over the main level of the house. A huge bouquet of orange flowers was on the table. It was beautiful! We walked over to the table, and as I was looking down at what I thought were a pair of gold hoops on the table, I felt him grab my hand. He was down on one knee, slipped his grandmother's gorgeous ring onto my finger and asked "what are you doing for the rest of your life?!" Until that very moment, I had no idea... those gold hoops on the table were wedding bands, and he had asked me to marry him! :-) All along I just thought he was being romantic for St. Patrick's day!

Costa Rica - A dream destination

I recently vacationed in Costa Rica, which is simple magnificent. We stayed at the Sol Melia, Paradisus Playa Conchal which is an amazing all inclusive (the only way to go when you are traveling). We've stayed at the Sol Melia in the Dominican Republic several times and have become life long patrons, they offer a VIP if you will, called the Royal Services. The RS provides beautiful suites, private pool, swim up bar, private restaurant and a personal butler *love it*

While in Costa Rica, I took a look at some great places for destination wedding ceremonies and receptions. The resort offers an indoor area for a nice ceremony of about 100 people, and the breath taking wading pool area would offer a more intimate ceremony and reception for about 50 people.

Either way with the beautiful ambiance of Costa Rica, that the resort does such a great job of maintaining and all your closest family and friends, there is no doubt that a wedding here would exceed your wildest dreams.

All I want for Christmas is a Diamond ring.....

With the holidays rapidly approaching I know that there are a lot of you out there that might be thinking that 2009 is the year to propose to that special someone. So I came up with a few great ideas that you can use to win her heart for the holidays.

1. Christmas in Washington - Its a beautifully clear night with a little bite in the air, take a stroll downtown by the monuments. Stopping at the Lincoln memorial, with the city lights reflecting off the Tidal Basin get down on one knee and ask her to be your wife.

2. Oh Christmas Tree - Spend the afternoon finding the perfect Christmas tree or even better yet go out to a Christmas tree orchard and show her some muscle by cutting one down yourself. Then take it home and spend the evening decorating the tree, carefully hang the ring or the box amongst the decorations and show her your Christmas tree surprise.

3. Santa Baby - For the Thespians out there dress up as Santa Clause and surprise her at the office holiday party with whats on YOUR Santa wish list!

4. Sleigh bells ring - Take a beautiful carriage ride tour through the city with champagne and any stop along the way will leave a memorable proposal.

5. Home for the Holidays - Keep it close to home. If you travel to be with family over the holidays then offer to make the holiday toast and make it one she'll never forget.

6. Winter wonderland - After a fresh snow fall write the words "will you marry me" in the snow and ask her to join you for some fresh air, sure to take her breath away!

Many of these ideas are simple enough but you have to make sure to make it your own. Make sure you have her favorite champagne on the carriage ride. Play "your song" while you are decorating the tree. Make your American Idol debut as a serenading Santa at the office party. Add candles to your message in the snow. Have a photographer take pictures as you propose at the monuments.

FIT FOR HIS QUEEN

WELCOME TO MY BLOG! I am very excited to have you here and even more excited to share with you what I DO and what I LOVE!

Like many of my engagements, this one was near and dear to my heart. It started many months ago when I officially introduced my business and website. I received an email from a very close friend that said "maybe we should talk I may need your help!" After a few lunches and phone calls a very close friend turned into a client.

I remember our second meeting after I had done some research, we were at lunch and I whipped out the lab top and start showing him some of my findings. I could see the beads of sweat start building on his forehead and the room start spinning :) Needless to say it was a bit overwhelming, after a quick glass of water (I'm sure if he didn't have to go back to work he would have made it a double shot of something) he said that he was up for the challenge and we were off and running.

We traveled to several different stores and looked at many different styles of rings, 1cts and 2cts, Tiffany settings and antiques settings. Rings with diamond hallos and three stone rings, yellow gold and platinum, two mm bands to four mm bands, VS stones and SI stones. And I LOVED EVERY MINUTE of it. We spent several weeks developing his likes and her dislikes. At one point we even had the "girlfriends friends opinion" which I am not always a big fan of because in my MANY years in this business it is hard for that friend to be completely objective, but I take it all in.

After searching high and low he decided that this ring would have to be something custom, where we could take all the parts that he liked to make THE ONE. THE RING that he felt would take her breath away and knew that he would be proud to present to her as he asks her to marry him. We sat down with one of my Jewelers with sketched in hand and the magic began. We chose a magnificent 1 1/2 brilliant cut stone and put into motion Project MK's custom ring.

I love to learn new things in the business and this project showed me something new. Before we could see a wax mold of our custom ring we had to approve a 3 dimensional computer generated schematic of the ring. From there we could approve, add to or even make changes to the ring. What a fantastic idea cause I have battled with a few stubborn jewelers in my day who hated when I made a change to a wax mold.

We were very excited to take the next step, a tangible mold that he could admire. By that time

I think that he truly had a vision of what he wanted and it was fun to see him take what I had taught him and express his creativity (of course as a diamond professional I had to give my ney or yeah :). It was all too real for him at this point.

With anticipation and excitement rising, the final call came, "Naleli your clients ring is ready and it looks fantastic!" I jumped on the phone and called him at work, told him that THE RING was ready and got a "good, good to hear that." I was so confused when I got off the phone, was something wrong was he getting cold feet, could he be changing his mind?

No of course not he was surrounded by co-workers and couldn't give a woot woot as he skipped down the hall! :)

So hear is the final product, the creme' de la creme', the ring fit for his QUEEN.........
